APHA extend an open invite to businesses to take part in a seminar detailing what may happen in the even of a no-deal Brexit around Plant and Seed Variety Rights, and trade in seed and propagating material

The seminar is being held to inform stakeholders how trade in seed and propagating material between the UK and the EU would be affected if the UK leaves the EU in March 2019 without a deal, and how plant breeders would be able to protect their intellectual property.

A scenario in which the UK leaves the EU without agreement (a ‘no deal’ scenario) remains unlikely given the mutual interests of the UK and the EU in securing a negotiated outcome.

Negotiations are progressing well and both we and the EU continue to work hard to seek a positive deal. However, it’s our duty as a responsible government to prepare for all eventualities, including ‘no deal’, until we can be certain of the outcome of those negotiations.

APHA Plant Varieties and Seeds team invite you to a presentation explaining how APHA are supporting businesses in the event of a no deal and the subsequent changes in process. These changes are set against the recently published Technical Notice.

The meeting will be held in Eastbrook Cambridge, (map and travel details attached). Parking at Eastbrook is limited and cannot be guaranteed for attendees, so we recommend using public transport where possible.

Please note there are two presentations.

27 November; 10.00am for varieties that require National Listing.  Agricultural seed, seed potatoes and vegetable seed sectors.

28 November; 10.00am for varieties that do not require National Listing. Fruit propagating material, ornamentals, vegetable propagating material, forest reproductive material, home gardeners sectors.

Please feel free to send this invite to individuals or organisations that you think would be interested.

Eastbrook can only accommodate a limited number of guests.  If the meeting is oversubscribed a further presentation can be organised.

It is imperative that you acknowledge your attendance by the 14 November in order to secure a place.

State the date you wish to attend by sending an email by the 14 November to

27 November 10:00 am (National list).

8 November 10:00 am (Non National list).
