All five of the gardens built on APL Avenue at BBC Gardeners’ World Live have proven a huge success, with great feedback so far and the awards to match. MJM Landscapes took the Best Construction Award at the show, with a gold award to back it up.
The other four gardens on the avenue all took awards as well, showing the high quality that APL Accreditation is proof of.
At the awards presentation, hosted by Andrew Fisher-Tomlin, he said, "Seldom in the industry is there so much cooperation, but with the new show set up it is really noticeable how collaboration between the nurseries, designers and contractors have worked together so well. A true reflection upon the APL Community".
The five gardens at the competition are:
Best Construction Award and GOLD - Eat and Shelter - MJM Landscapes (Lancashire)
SILVER-MERIT - An Urban Retreat - Big Fish Landscape (Hereford) designer Olivia Kirk
SILVER-MERIT - The Garden Makers (Warwickshire) designer Claudia de Yong
SILVER-MERIT - Genesis Landscapes (Cambridgeshire) designers Jean Wardrop and Alexandra Stevenson
SILVER - Stone and Leaf (Essex)
The five front or back gardens that feature on the APL Avenue, give the public the opportunity to witness first-hand what can be achieved in a small space. Landscapers are asked to produce a breakdown of costings to share with the public to give a greater understanding of the costs of a garden build.
Visitors to the BBC Gardeners’ World Live at NEC Birmingham, 16-19 June, are also being asked to vote for their favourite garden on the APL Avenue, and the winner will receive a top-of-the-range Makita 18v cordless twin-pack power tool set.
The Peoples’ Choice voting will take place during the show days with the award being presented towards closure of the show on Sunday afternoon.
APL Members, Lanwarne Landscapes, built a garden as part of the Beautiful Borders feature, which is displayed alongside the APL Avenue, and they went home with the Best Beautiful Gardens award for their Fire and Ice border, and Big Fish Landscapes took home Best Show Garden for their Health For Life Community Garden.
