The EU Settlement Scheme is now open, and as an employer of EU citizens you can help them by utilising the governments Employers Toolkit for the EU Citizens Settlement Scheme
The EU Settlement Scheme allows EU Citizens currently resident in the UK to apply for Settled or Pre-settled status following Brexit. This will allow people to continue to live and work in the UK after December 2020, and means they will be eligible for public services, public funds, pensions and British citizenship if they want to apply.
The Settlement Scheme is now open. Applications need to be made before June 2021. After a launching on 30 March, more than 50,000 applications were made over the first weekend. This brings the total number of applications to over 280,000.
Applying to the EU Settlement Scheme is completely free, and the Home Office’s aim is to make it as simple and straightforward as possible. All you need to do is complete a three-step application with a laptop, tablet or mobile device to prove your identity, confirm you live in the UK and declare any criminal convictions.
The Government has released a toolkit to aid employers in supporting employees and their families who are EU citizens to apply for settled status using the EU Settlement Scheme.
It is good practice for employers wishing to retain EU staff to assist their employees through the application process.
The Toolkit contains information for employers plus leaflets and posters for distribution to employees clarifying the scheme.
The toolkit can be found on the Government website at the following web address: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/eu-settlement-scheme-employer-toolkit
