As part of the David Colegrave Foundation (DCF) Scholarship season, James Crawford who is currently studying for a BSc in Horticulture at Writtle University College, has been awarded the Markham Colegrave International Scholarship.
This annual scholarship, which is jointly funded by DCF and the American Floral Endowment (AFE), provides a student with $4500 USD towards a work placement in a horticultural business in the US or Canada.
On the news of this award James Crawford said, “I am absolutely delighted to have been awarded this scholarship and I am very thankful to The David Colegrave Foundation for the opportunity to do an internship in the USA. I know that completing an internship in the USA will heighten my career prospects and give me the opportunity of a lifetime.”
James, who is from Craigavon in Country Armagh, plans to travel to the US in May and will initially be working with The Ohio Program at The Ohio State University where his first internship will be as a crop scout in Michigan. He will then go onto to experience a second area of production and also hopes to visit other large scale horticulture industries such as forestry in Oregon, grape production in California and plug plant production across the country.

He has a clear plan for maximising the opportunities afforded by this award and I am confident that he will return with a wealth of invaluable experience.”

I’m looking forward to following his progress as he travels through the U.S. and is able to experience multiple aspects of growing and production. This program is a great partnership and the students receive an incredible experience.”
