Majestic Trees has launched a new Sponsored Travel Scholarship with the David Colegrave Foundation (DCF).

The scholarship is offering up to £3,000 to fund a placement abroad at a tree nursery and includes the opportunity for a work placement at Majestic Trees.

Majestic Trees and the David Colegrave Foundation will help in finding paid placements at the best tree nurseries throughout the world, ensuring that the scholarship provides a life changing experience, in an environment where the student will learn and be stretched.

After the student has returned from their placement abroad, they will have the opportunity, if interested and subject to an interview, to work at Majestic Trees, which could well become a permanent position if both parties desire.

At the Majestic Trees placement, the successful student will be provided the opportunity to see the complete production cycle, go on one European tree buying trip, plus be exposed and given the opportunity to observe the marketing, sales and business side, which is an important skill and understanding for a successful career in production horticulture.

Steve McCurdy who owns Majestic Trees with his wife Janet, says: “We first met in California whilst I was an exchange student in 1979/80 sponsored by the UK nursery, Thomas Rochford in conjunction with the Future Farmers of America. This year’s work experience opportunity changed my life, and opened my eyes to the bigger world and the endless possibilities. In fact, it taught me to think anything is possible and changed my business thinking and the way we now run Majestic Trees. It is for this reason that Majestic Trees would like to provide this sponsored scholarship for someone passionate about tree production.”

Jeff Colegrave, DCF Chairman, says: “We are thrilled to be able to broaden our scholarship offering by welcoming Majestic Trees as a sponsored scholarship partner. This is a really fantastic prospect for a commercial horticulture student that has a passion for trees.”

Scholarship Season runs until 31 January 2019 and to enter applicants need to complete an application form which they can do online. Students that have previously worked on a tree nursery or studied courses more closely linked to tree production are especially encouraged to apply.
