Getting a UK EORI number to continue trading with the EU
In December HMRC wrote to 145,000 VAT registered businesses in the UK which only trade with the EU explaining the changes to Customs, Excise and VAT in the unlikely event that the UK leaves the EU without a deal. Letters on 'no deal' Brexit advice for businesses only trading with the EU
In the unlikely event of the UK leaving without a deal, there will be immediate changes for UK businesses on how they trade with other businesses in the EU after 29th March.
To support you in preparations you will need to make in the event of a no deal, it is important to ensure you have a UK Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number.
Having this will allow you to continue to import or export goods with the EU after 29th March 2019, if the UK leaves without a deal.
If you do not have an EORI number, please visit www.gov.uk/hmrc/get-eori to find out how to register.
For more information on these changes please visit www.gov.uk/hmrc/declare-goods.
HMRC state they are committed to supporting businesses by keeping them informed of changes.
