Water Situation January 2019

River flows have declined in January and the groundwater recharge has also slowed down.  The outlook for February and March suggests a wetter than average condition which will help the water availability situation but that is still speculative.    Groundwater levels actually dropped in January even some that showed an increase so there is still concern for the irrigation season levels.

We still do not have normal river and ground water levels at the end of January so the prospects of restrictions in the coming irrigation season is possible in many areas of the country as we only have two months left until abstraction normally starts.

Continue to fill your reservoir whenever possible to make use of the rainfall we do get.

Plan within your business to mitigate the effects of possible water restrictions in some areas.
