After previous success at Hampton, The APL will once again be building a stunning small garden for visitors to enjoy and hopefully be inspired to use an APL member in their own projects.

'A Place To Meet.. Again' has this year been designed by MAPL Member Mike Long.

Mike had run his own landscape construction business in Suffolk and Essex since 2010. Over the past 10 years he has designed and built many gardens of various styles and budgets and was recognised nationally by Marshalls after winning the Truck.

His passion to create has now led him into designing garden spaces full time. Mike commented "Designing a garden ushers in change and the development of a space, which in turn enhances the lives of the people who use it. Being outdoors is proven to be vital for wellbeing, and I personally find it to be the most crucial element to ensuring good mental and physical health. Through carefully considered and inspired design, my aim is to get people enjoying their outdoor spaces so that we can once again become more connected to the holistic beauty that nature has on offer for us all.”

The APL’s ‘A Place to Meet’ garden has this year focused on the up-cycling and repurposing of various materials, using them for a landscape application. In recent years we have seen countless items up-cycled into furniture for the home, but what can be done in the garden? Up-cycled features include scaffold boards as a board walk and gin bar, a scaffold pole pergola and large concrete water ducts will be used to create seating and water features. Our hope is that visitors to the garden will be inspired to invest into their own outdoor spaces without being constrained by budgeting for materials, a lot can be achieved with little.
