Make sure your garden centre has the necessary insurance

It certainly feels in recent weeks like the weather has taken a step in a more positive direction.

For a start, the sun is more present, and people are beginning to spend more time outdoors.

One beneficiary of this time of year is garden centres, which will potentially start to welcome huge numbers of people through their doors between now and autumn.

Of course, garden centres operate all year round, but the finer weather means that more eyes are on them from the general public.

With this in mind, it’s so important that you have the correct garden centre insurance in place.

Keep your garden centre policy flexible

As with all our policies, we recognise the flexibility required to meet the varying garden centre’s needs. What works for one garden centre, might not necessarily work elsewhere.
It’s why our insurance package(s) offers a vast range of property and liability covers, with flexible limits tailored to your horticultural business.
We also consider mixed construction buildings including glasshouses, and offer a 24-month indemnity period for business interruption and full environmental liability cover.

What’s automatically included

There are other aspects to consider as well which is why £7,500 of target stock and up to £5000 of refrigerated or frozen stock is automatically included free of charge.

The lighter evenings and warmer days mean some items and equipment are out in the open - including stock. To provide further peace of mind this can be covered up to £500 for any item, against fire, lightning, aircraft, explosion and theft, as standard on all our policies.

Tailored approach

Whoever you are and whatever insurance you might seek, it’s important that you are heard and that the necessary package is made available to you.

Garden centre life is unique, and we understand that each one has particular horticultural insurance requirements.

Because of this, we can extend your policy arrangement to incorporate cover for other additional aspects like landscaping services, as well as liability towards concessions or other businesses trading from your premises. The entire premises must be considered and we have experience in this field.

Seasonal changes

The garden centre business by nature is busy at different stages of the year. Often you’ll be exceptionally busy which is why we have incorporated an automatic 25% increase to your stock free of charge during the months of November, December and January, and the six-week period either side of any UK Bank Holiday. It basically means that during the busiest times of the calendar year, you’ll have one less thing to think about.

The tailored and flexible cover available to your garden centre is the preferred scheme for many of the UK’s garden centres and HTA members.  It can also be paid in twelve interest-free instalments!
