About the HTA

This is a hugely exciting time for the sector and for the HTA.  Gardens and managed green spaces and landscapes have never been more important to the UK – for the economy, for the environment and for the nation’s well-being.   

The HTA has 1,350 members, including garden retailers, growers, landscapers, and suppliers to the garden industry.  The HTA lobbies and campaigns for its members within the horticulture industry and has an excellent reputation.  We provide our members with the opportunity to learn, innovate, and network with others in the industry.

We have an effective political lobbying team working to enable the best conditions for our members to flourish across the UK and our research and insights team provide impactful data to help our members run productive and resilient businesses.

We have been running the National Garden Gift scheme since 1962. These garden gift cards can be bought and redeemed at HTA Garden centre members sites throughout the UK and can also be purchased online and in some supermarket gift card malls.  It is the biggest garden gift card scheme in the country – locking in around £40 million of consumer spend to horticulture and our members’ businesses.

What you’ll be doing

As Senior Marketing and Communications Executive, you will be required to develop, implement and manage innovative and effective marketing communications on behalf of the HTA.  This will involve collaboration with teams across the wider organisation to promote and protect the garden industry across all channels. You will be required to deliver professional, strategically linked campaigns and communications to increase member engagement and grow the profile and reputation of the HTA as the leading trade voice of the UK Garden industry. 

With a focus on delivering a high level of member satisfaction, supporting our strategic ambitions and financial targets, this role will suit someone who wishes to make a real difference and show case their skill set. 

This is an office-based role with hybrid working.  There is an important need for regular in-person collaboration and visibility across our offices and with members.

Key responsibilities:

  • Marketing communications: To take the lead in the planning, coordination and delivery of all marketing communications for all our events and campaigns across the year. Work closely with colleagues across departments, and advise on content, formats and channels, create annual campaign communication plans, and manage the marketing calendar. To drive member and consumer engagement and sales through targeted campaigns, acting as the central point of contact for all internal and external communications.
  • Content: To lead the development of relevant, engaging and on-brand content in the form of copy, artwork, photography, video and podcast for us across digital and print platforms.
  •  HTA presence at events: Act as the project manager for stand and collateral design for all HTA events. Manage print specification by liaising closing with printers and external agencies in a cost-effective manner. To work closely with the HTA Events team, Designer and external agencies.
  • Brand ambassador: Act as the main contact for artwork and design, ensuring all materials align with HTA branding and messaging.
  • Project management: Brief and manage suppliers, coordinate cross-team campaigns using project management tools, and oversee workload prioritisation and campaign plans.

What you’ll bring 

Essential Experience & Skills

  • A background in Marketing and Communication with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar fast paced role 
  • High standard of written, verbal and electronic communication skills with the ability to influence internally and externally to the organisation at all levels
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, capable of juggling operational delivery with longer-term development work
  • An eye for detail with the ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and within a small team
  • Excellent IT literacy, with demonstrable knowledge of MS Office including Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Prepared to travel for external meetings and conferences, which may involve overnight stays, with a willingness to be flexible on hours, when necessary
  • Educated to A level standard or equivalent
  • Full UK driving license and prepared to drive for meetings and events which might require occasional overnight stays

Desirable

  • Experience of using website content management systems would be an advantage 
  • Degree and/or relevant qualification 
  • Previous experience or an interest in the Horticulture industry 
  • An enthusiasm for gardens/gardening, the outdoor environment and contributing positively to it
