THE LAND SETTLEMENT ASSOCIATION (LSA)

The LSA was founded in 1934 at the height of the Depression, "to carry out an experimental scheme, with financial assistance from the Government, for the provision of rural small-holdings for unemployed persons from the industrialised cities".

The organisation was wound up in 1983, and the LSA Charitable Trust draws upon its modest assets to support objectives connected with the Association's original purpose in production horticulture and cooperative rural enterprise.

The LSA Charitable Trust is registered as a Charity in England and Wales (No. 803671).

The Charitable Objectives of the LSA Charitable Trust are:

  • The relief of poverty for former members, employees and tenants of the Land Settlement Association Limited
  • The advancement of education in the field of horticulture and agriculture

The interests of the Trust are underpinned by its values, informed by its history:

  • focused upon fresh produce and market gardening;
  • fostering social enterprise, and cooperative models of operation;
  • concerned to align social value with commercial viability;
  • interested in fostering quality horticulture and innovation

The fourth intake for the Fellowship is now open to applicants who are developing their careers within Horticulture - to find out more, please click on the button below:
