Project Outcomes
WeevilWatch: Smart Pest Monitoring in Ornamental Crops
The project is funded through ADOPT (Accelerating Development of Practices and Technologies), a multi-year funding programme within the UK Defra Farming Innovation Programme, delivered in partnership with Innovate UK. ADOPT supports collaborative grower-led, on-site trials or experiments to generate, test, and demonstrate, innovative solutions that address commercial production challenges.

Data collected through this project will provide an objective assessment on the potential of the WeevilWatch smart monitoring device to replace the need for standard crop scouting for this pest. Specific outputs from this project will provide answers to the following:
- Does the WeevilWatch smart monitoring device provide similar or improved detection of vine weevil adults within crops compared with standard scouting. This assessment will be based on the sensitivity and reliability of the two approaches to monitoring.
- Does Andermatt UK's Omnilure vine weevil attractant provide cost effective improvements in the efficacy of the monitoring device.
- Can the monitoring device be used at a density within crops that is practically and economically viable for businesses.
- Based on feedback from nursery staff, does the monitoring device require further design modification such as improved weatherproofing and robustness. In addition, does the alert system require further development in order to enable practical interpretation of the information provided.
