Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is legislation that makes producers responsible for the costs of managing a product's packaging when it is disposed of at the end of its lifecycle.
Extended Producer Responsibility affects retailers, nurseries, manufacturers and suppliers differently, so you'll need to understand how it will apply to your business, and what you need to do to comply. As of 1 January 2023, obligated companies need to be collecting packaging data, and businesses with a fee-paying obligation must now be reporting.
Fees apply from 2025, and these will be base fees, a cost per tonne of overall material. However, from 2026, fees will become modulated based on recyclability assessments of household packaging.
