HTA comments on PM resignation and postponement of UK-EU Leaders’ Summit

The HTA has responded to the resignation of the Prime Minister and the postponement of the UK-EU Leaders' Summit
Jennifer Pheasey, Director of Policy & Public Affairs at the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA), commented:
“The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) is disappointed to see reports that the UK-EU Leaders’ Summit will be delayed following the resignation of the Prime Minister. HTA member businesses are facing a perfect storm of costs, uncertainty and a lack of confidence, when they should be being supported to invest, grow and green the nation.
“To see delays to the UK-EU Leaders’ Summit, alongside which more details of how the UK and EU will ease barriers and unnecessary costs in how we trade in plants and plant products were due to be announced, is hugely frustrating. We urgently call for a new date to be set, details to be given to help businesses rebuild supply chains, action to address chaos at the border, and, alongside this, for the government to stop piling costs on businesses that are critical to helping the UK economy grow. This period of change must not change the ambition to reset the UK-EU relationship.”
